Blog Post #2- Technology Takeover

Social media has drastically changed the world, as society no longer controls social media but ratehr social media now controls our society.  Thirteen-year-old Katherine is almost on her phone all day long, and when she does set the phone down for only a couple of minutes, she’s misses dozens of notifications.  When personally reading her story and hearing that she has dozens of missed notifications I got anxious myself, as the idea of limited interactivity from the world for just a few minutes these days is in a way terrifying, as that is what society has established to be the new norm.  Through the perspective of technological determinism being seen throughout the case of Katherines story, it shows how technology is determining every next move Katherine makes.  When Katherine gets in the car to go home after school, she is more concerned with her phone rather than her safety as she considered putting her seatbelt on second priority as her first priority was to stay connected with her friends on her phone.  Even with something as simple as posting a photo on Instagram, the anxiety becomes real as she watches her photo on Instagram receiving likes, with the constant fear that not enough people will like it, leading her to delete the photo which overall introduces the technological determinism.  This is because Katherines phone is a source of technology which enables her to build her social structure around technology.
