Blog Post # 1 - Ice Breaker
What I chose to share for this week’s blog post is just one
video titled, Movie Accent Expert BreaksDown 28 More Actors' Accents which is part of a series in which popular
movie and television accents are broken down and critiqued by a professional
dialect coach. This series is showcased
on the WIRED YouTube channel and is part of a much larger series that has
different people from various areas of expertise breaking down how their
profession or skill is portrayed in film and television. Other examples of
videos they create are, Forensics ExpertExamines 20 Crime Scene Investigations from Film & TV and Surgical Resident Breaks Down 49 MedicalScenes From Film. I find it both entertaining and interesting to see not
only someone verifying (or discrediting) the legitimacy of the things we see on
television and film but also breaking down how it is actually done in the real
world.

Having watched a video from earlier in the series, I was excited when WIRED released another movie accents analysis video. This video I found to be particularly interesting because accents - especially those performed by actors - are something that I notice but never really put much thought into, so to see an analysis was cool. WIRED is just one of many similar channels that I subscribe to on YouTube that make similar videos such as Epicurious's "XYZ Expert Blind Trial Test", or CUT's "Match the XYZ with the random stranger" so seeing the same type of thing done for something like movie acting was definitely really interesting and enjoyable.
