Blog Post #1 - YouTube

When asked to discuss a social media platform that we like and interact with often the first one that came to mind is YouTube. I visit YouTube at least once a day to catch up on my favourite creators content or just to see the newest music videos premier. YouTube to me is the ultimate social media platform because you are able to interact with people who have millions of followers and people who have hundreds of followers. You are able to comment, like, subscribe and share and find a sense of community that is lacking in other social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The most attractive feature about YouTube though in my opinion is that there is content for everyone. Whether you are trying to find out news about your favourite celebrity or figure out how to parboil a chicken YouTube is the place to go. Currently I am just a consumer of YouTube and do not post my own content nor do I think that I ever will.

    YouTube is a personal favourite social media platform, and if I can remember correctly, the first social media platform I engaged with when I was younger. I remember hearing about a girl singing and how I should watch it on YouTube, and from there, the possibilities were close to endless. To this day, YouTube is still something I visit regularly, and almost always have a tab open on my laptop which is YouTube. Whether I am using it for studying music, entertainment or catching up with some of my favourite celebrities vlogs. My personal favourite to watch on YouTube right now are makeup tutorials, and in particular Shani Grimmond is my go-to. I like YouTube because I can often find something to put on that is good background noise while I go abut my everyday life that does not necessarily distract me, which is what something like Netflix would do! YouTube will probably continue to be a place for people to share and search for a variety of content and I hope never dies off.

    Hello!

    I really enjoyed reading your post this week as I related to it a lot. Over the last few years I've slowly become obsessed with YouTube. I started getting extremely bored of everything on Netflix and turned to YouTube and ended up enjoying it a lot. I really enjoy the various different types of content that YouTube offers. Like you said there really is something for everyone to watch. YouTube is an incredible website as it offers entertainment videos, news videos and useful informational videos. My favourite type of videos are vlogs. I couldn't tell you why I find it interesting to watch another person live their day, but for some reason I enjoy it. Overall, I enjoy a lot of the content on YouTube and am sure I will continue to enjoy it for years to come. Lastly, much like you I do not think I will ever post my own content on YouTube, even though I sometimes am jealous of the cool jobs that YouTubers have.

    Hello!

    this is a really interesting post. I have become more and more interested in YouTube for the reasons of variety that is able to be found. I think that most people do not post their own information on YouTUbe because they are scared of the judgements. Will they be made fun of? Will the viewers not enjoy the content? which is simple an issue within society and not within the platform itself. I find that its very interesting when people express what they are feeling on YouTube. I really enjoy watching YouTube videos on cooking shows to show me new things to try at school. There is content for everyone and that is another great point that i loved from this post.

Blog Post #3

Due to the freedom we have for the post this week, I took the time to really think about what I wanted to write in my post. My first thought was to discuss sports but I wanted to try and discuss a topic that could create more discussion. As most social media users have learned over the last few days, former SNL actor Pete Davidson, and pop star Ariana Grande have called off their engagement. While the speed at which their relationship seemed intense, at the end of the day, shouldn't we be more focused on the wellbeing of each of these individuals who very well may be walking away from the loves of their life? Just a social human-being

I want to draw on ideas from this week’s reading to share upon how this perspective has provided me some insights into why social media practices vary from person to person.  In society where there is a strong reliance on social media for interaction, connectivity and information, it is uncommon to encounter someone that does not use any form of social media whatsoever. The social practice of meeting a neighbour or starting a conversation with someone you see on a public bus has decreased because of the overlap of our public and private lives. Therefore, because there is less sharing exchanged exclusively with people solely immersed as beings in a public space, I believe that even those that attempt to resist the use of social media feel the need to be connected.
