Blog Post #1 - Machine Gun Kelly or Eminem?
Something in the internet universe I’d like to share is Machine Gun
Kelly’s dis track Rap Devil and
Eminem’s Killshot. I decided to share
this because it relates to the themes of communication, culture, social life
and technology we discussed in lecture. The act of Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) tweeting about Eminem's daughter along with the lack of quality rapping from mainstream artists prompted
Eminem to release his album Kamikaze, where he calls out a few rappers including MGK. With over 100
million views in just over a week, it’s amazing to see how much influence technology
has in our society, as it's unlikely this would have generated such a large
audience 50 years ago. Although these songs are about MGK
and Eminem, it’s interesting that most of us have heard about this altercation
as if it were happening at our school and shows how technology can change our
relationship and understanding of time and space.
Below are links to the songs:
Do you think YouTube was the right platform for these artists
to debut their songs?
What do these songs say about our culture and the society
we live in?
Do you think Machine Gun Kelly and Eminem’s conflict with
each other is real or a marketing ploy?
