Blog Post #1 - Ice Breaker
Hello everyone,
A social media platform that I use frequently is Instagram. Quite often I use Instagram when I am bored or procrastinating. Typically, when I used this social media site I am looking at pictures and videos of animals, friends, classmates, athletes and, celebrities. I do not use Instagram for news updates or for receiving important information. However, there are several accounts that I follow for food recipes, travel and sports updates. I enjoy following these accounts even though I do not often get important information from using them because I like learning about new food and drink recipes while also keeping updated with what is going on in the sports world.
I know last week we talked about tools and how they do not necessarily make our lives better, but they make our lives more convenient. I think this is true when talking about Instagram because many people use Instagram as an easy way to catch up with friends and meet new people. We can stay in touch with friends even if we are not close to them by simply going on our phones and sending a message or by liking one of their pictures. Social media has created an easy way to communicate with others at any given time.
Here are some of the Instagram accounts that I follow:
When reading your post and specifically when you mention how social media has enabled us to communicate with others at any given time got me thinking about the importance of the social media tools I use to stay in touch with family and friends on a daily basis. Being an exchange student, apps like messenger, whatsapp, and snapchat help me communicate in a fast and cost saving way with those back home as most social media tools are free of charge and eliminates the need for posting letters that may not arrive to loved ones days or weeks later. These tools allow others to stay connected no matter how far away someone may be or the time.
ReplyDeleteHey Lauren,
ReplyDeleteSpeaking to your point about social media being a form of convenience and entertainment I do agree with your point of Instagram being structured like that. I also feel like Facebook can be linked in the same attraction model style. Both social media platforms are their to build connections between individuals along with being a form of entertainment. Just like you, I also follow fun sites on both Facebook and Instagram to pass the time and play to my interests. Though I wrote about Facebook being my primary media, Instagram in the running as well because of the social value it brings.
Hello Lauren,
ReplyDeleteI think the social media app you picked was a great one to talk about. Almost everyone nowadays has an Instagram account or is familiar with the app. Instagram is an app that users often use to demonstrate the best parts of their lives. Much like you, I don't find myself using Instagram for any news purposes and enjoy it more for seeing my friends or celebrities posts. I also find myself stalking food recipe accounts, yet never end up making the recipes.
I completely agree with your point that social media has made our lives more convenient instead of better. The more I think about it the more I realize that I use social media because of the connivence it offers. For example I use it to wish people happy birthday instead of texting them or calling them. Or I will use it to message relatives that are out of town. There are even a couple instances that I've rekindled friendships with the help of communication over social media. Social media really is a great tool that helps people stay in touch.
