Blog Post #1 - Ice Breaker

Hi all,

A social media app/website that I use almost every single day (and check almost every single hour), is Twitter. The reason I check it so often is because of the rate at which it tracks breaking news stories, trending hashtags, and up-to-the-minute sports scores. I don't post much to the site, or to any social media site for that matter, but for the sake of keeping up with regional, national, and international news, I find Twitter to be my go-to app. Another reason why I gravitate towards Twitter over other social media apps, is for the humorous posts (either by professional comedians or amateurs). We talked briefly in class about the advantages and limitations tied to various media platforms, so I find it interesting how Twitter users are able to generate comedy with a mere 280 characters.

Here's a few of my favourite accounts:

  1. Twitter has been and still is one of my favourite social media apps. As you mentioned, it is a great place to find out the latest news no matter if it's local or international and of course the humorous posts are my favourite thing about the website. Whenever I'm bored or just want a good laugh, Twitter is definitely my go-to app.

  2. Hey!

Awesome post! Personally speaking, I also believe that twitter is a social media platform that I use and scroll through quite regularly. Twitter as you said, is a great place to see what is happening around us, whether it is through hashtags, or tweets, or retweets. Not only that but I do believe twitter also has the ability to act as a gratifying platform that may lift ones spirit, depending on the 8information brought forth. I also believe that this is a great way to keep up with one's favourite celebrities, friends and family.

  3. I enjoyed reading your post as I can see where you are coming from in terms of the news updates and how accurate it is in a time sense, once something happens, Twitter knows. Though Twitter isn't one of my go to's for social media I do dabble from time to time. I am familiar with NotDanyHeatley though, I follow them as well and the odd time to do check in on Twitter I find their work amusing. Despite this I personally think they have gone a tad down hill in their content, there's this feeling that they're trying harder than they used to, but maybe that's just me. Overall good post.

  4. This blog caught my attention because I too use twitter regularly along with Instagram and Snap Chat. I do find it convenient for news and other updates that are going on throughout our world. Twitter is definitely my go to social media website for humour, as the point you raised about how amateur comedians are able to create humour in under 280 characters is pretty remarkable and never fails to make me laugh. I also enjoy how relatable the posts are to individuals our age, making the platform even more enjoyable, as being able to relate to the content ultimately furthers your connection with this social media website. Thanks for sharing!!

  5. Hey Adam,

Great post! Although I haven't had Twitter since high school, I've noticed that it has a tendency to post breaking news stories (especially sports) faster than say, a journalist publishing an article. Having a 280 character limit definitely has its advantages and disadvantages, however it certainly pays a role in the speed at which content is released and produced. I decided to deactivate my Twitter account after I found myself spending too much time on it, but I am definitely open to returning to the site!

  6. Just like you mentioned, even when I'm not active on Twitter it is definitely something that I check everyday. I think that Twitter is great because while it's a combination of things I enjoy (sports, memes, news, etc.), I have the option to use Twitter tools such as lists so that if I want I can just view my sports, or my news, or my memes, etc and receive my information quickly that way. On the other hand, when all these things come together into my main timeline, Twitter is definitely one of my favourite social media sites. I'm not a fan of the character limit increase, but I guess you can't please everyone!
