Blog Post #1 - Ice Breaker

Hey Everyone!

Growing up with the internet allowed me to acquire skills and knowledge about technology and it was where I had the most freedom to explore whatever I wanted. Now, I mainly use the internet for school, research, social media, and to stream movies and television shows. I want to share one website I found many years ago and have been using on a regular basis ever since, https://www3.watchserieshd.io. This website called Watch Series is a streaming site that has every television show I have ever searched for. Unlike Netflix, which I also use on a regular basis, Watch Series posts new episodes only 24 hours after it airs. This site is very useful for those who want to follow specific shows without having cable television, like myself. However, this website along with many other internet streaming sites is a reason why cable television businesses are consistently losing customers. The internet and these types of websites are dominating because they are free, portable, easy to access and use.

    I found this post to be very relatable seeing as I have also for a long time been using this website to stream a variety of TV shows. I most definitely agree that the internet streaming website available today are forcing cable TV businesses to die down due to the lack of accessibility and price that these websites offer. Also, I as well love Netflix and use it often but the watchseries website gives me a sense of nostalgia - of all the shows I used to watch before Netflix even existed.

    Hi Sam,

    Coincidentally, I Watch Series has also become one of my favourite sites to stream movies and TV shows as well. I recently discovered and find that it is quite up to date with episodes as you mention and also has a lot of shows and movies that are difficult to find elsewhere. While I am a big fan of Netflix, I often turn to Watch Series when I am in search of a very specific movie or the latest season of a TV series. It is one of the few streaming websites does not require you to enter credit card information or sign up for an account in someone which makes it more appealing.

Due to the freedom we have for the post this week, I took the time to really think about what I wanted to write in my post. My first thought was to discuss sports but I wanted to try and discuss a topic that could create more discussion. As most social media users have learned over the last few days, former SNL actor Pete Davidson, and pop star Ariana Grande have called off their engagement. While the speed at which their relationship seemed intense, at the end of the day, shouldn't we be more focused on the wellbeing of each of these individuals who very well may be walking away from the loves of their life? Just a social human-being

I want to draw on ideas from this week’s reading to share upon how this perspective has provided me some insights into why social media practices vary from person to person.  In society where there is a strong reliance on social media for interaction, connectivity and information, it is uncommon to encounter someone that does not use any form of social media whatsoever. The social practice of meeting a neighbour or starting a conversation with someone you see on a public bus has decreased because of the overlap of our public and private lives. Therefore, because there is less sharing exchanged exclusively with people solely immersed as beings in a public space, I believe that even those that attempt to resist the use of social media feel the need to be connected.
