Most recently, the website that I’ve found myself visiting quite frequently is the online magazine “Her campus”. After having joined the “Her campus Laurier” club, my roommate insisted that I check out her first article and having never heard of it, I was intrigued. After having read that first article I found myself exploring the rest website and enjoying the diversity of topics and contributors. With a cosmo feel, the articles are written by and for female university/ college students. The authors include ladies from over 300 campuses from multiple countries including Canada, the US, Brazil, Japan and India making the site, unique of its kind.
The magazine is organized by both topic and school, making the site easy to navigate. I love this feature as I enjoy reading the pieces by fellow Laurier students. The topics are chosen by each individual author making for a wide range of articles, ultimately expanding the reader base. The articles vary from more serious topics such as those surrounding sexual assault and career choices to lighter reading such as how to up your tinder game and tricks to keep your succulents alive.
What I love about this magazine is the sense of closeness it provides to my fellow female Laurier students as well as the ability to understand and explore other cultures and interests of ladies all over the world
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so interesting how a platform can connect us with a wide range of different people from across the world? I believe 'Her Campus' is a great tool in terms of unifying female students from all over. By being able to access, share, and engage with content from different campuses, we're able to learn about other cultures, while feeling incredibly connected to them. This idea relates to the 'media manifold' idea we discussed in class. Communication, culture, media, and technology each play an integral role in how 'Her Campus' operates.
Thanks for sharing HerCampus! It's great that there are so many positive creative outlets and resources of empowerment for young women. It'll be interesting to examine how networks such as HerCampus affect Laurier values, beliefs and culture systems.
