Blog Post #1: Vlogging

Being that I am such an active social media user, it’s hard to settle on only one aspect of the social media universe; however, the one platform I enjoy using every day is YouTube. One of the most popular categories on YouTube “People and Blogs” showcases the newest version of the blog – vlogs; this is where I spend the majority of my time. “Vlogging” consists of people filming their everyday lives, hobbies, and/or interests which they then share on their channels for their subscribers to consume. One of my favourite vloggers is the ACE Family. ACE stands for Austin, Catherine and Elle, and like their channel name suggests they are a family. I started watching them over two years ago when they had their daughter Elle. At this time, they had less than a million subscribers. Over the past couple years, their following has grown incredibly and they now have 11 million subscribers. The reason I like watching them so much compared to other vloggers is because they always make their viewers feel as though they are a part of their family. The content of their videos is personal, they share their daily routine, the big and exciting events in their lives and open their home to us on a regular basis. They are about to have another baby so recently I have been watching them more frequently in order to keep up with the pregnancy. They post videos of the baby shower, shopping for clothes and toys and preparing their 2-year-old daughter Elle about having a baby sibling. I can always count on their videos to make me laugh and entertain me. I look forward to seeing the notification pop up on my screen that the ACE Family has posted a new video.

  1. That's really interesting! It's really cool how Youtube allows you to fell a personal connection and love for people who you have never officially met face to face yet know so much about their lives and feel as though you're even a part of it. I too enjoy watching YouTube videos and keeping up with vloggers. When I was in high school I used to watch Zoella and Marcus Butler a lot and I felt as though I knew everything that happened in their lives and that we were even friends which is funny. I can completely relate to the feeling of excitement you get when a new video is posted!

  2. I enjoyed your post! I too really like watching vlogs. I like how vlogs allow you to feel as if you are on a personal level with the Youtuber, even if you haven't actually met them in person. I like watching Cole and Sav's vlogs as you get to see what they do on a day to day basis. They always make their vlogs really entertaining to watch. I also like to watch Danielle Caroline's vlogs as she always posts vlogs of her travelling or at concerts. It makes you feel like you are there with her enjoying the experience. These vloggers talk to you as if you are one of their friends. You feel a sort of connection with them. This makes me want to see more video's of their lives as you want to see what they get up to next.

  3. It is cool how vlogging and uploading on YouTube can be profitable and obtain such a huge audience. I watch certain entrepreneurs on YouTube as they give their viewers advice on where to visit at a specific destination. This relates to how technology has an unlimited "reach" such as in Baym's Dimensions of Media because a travel vlog can give viewers the experience as if they are travelling with the vlogger.
