Blog Post #1 Instagram
Hey
everyone!
A social media website that I find is my go-to,
and one in particular I find interesting is Instagram. The reason for this, is
because I enjoy the fact that I am able to see what’s new with my followers on
a daily basis, as well as obtain news facts and stories that allows me to
understand more of what is going on in the world. One cool feature I find
particularly interesting is the explore page. The reason for this is it once
again, gives me the ability to stay up to date with the latest Hollywood gossip
of what celebrities are doing on a daily basis. This is how I would say I am
able to stay ‘in the know’ about certain things. Another particular feature
that I enjoy about Instagram, is the fact that I am able to visit tons of
different beauty artists’ pages, in order to get specific tips on certain
makeup looks, so viewers like myself are able to recreate them. The explore
page, allows me to quickly find these makeup artists, as well as generate
pictures and information about new beauty artists they think I would like,
based on data they were able to obtain on my search habits. This data that was
obtained, draws a direct link to an area we touched upon in class and raises
questions in regards to privacy and does having social media mean you no longer
have privacy? The two links provided below, are my favourite celebrity gossip account
on Instagram as well as my favourite makeup artist.
Hi Clare!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed you blog post in regards to addressing the issue of 'privacy' amongst the realm of Instagram, which seems to be the most popular social media application within this generation. Similarly to Facebook, it is interesting yet terrifying how these applications have the ability to curate advertisements and modify our "explore page" based on the type of consumer we are deemed to be online. Whether this is tracking our beauty interests or otherwise, companies bank on discovering their ideal demographic and how to target these populations the most effectively. While this may simplify our lives to some degree, it does pose the question: "Does participating in social media mean that we are giving up the idea of privacy on the Internet?".
Hey Clare,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your blog post because I completely agree with Instagram being one of my favourite applications as well. I enjoy Instagram because not only am I able to post and share my own content, but I am also able to view and comment on others. In recent months, however, I find myself using Instagram as less of a tool to interact with its other users and more of a tool to learn about different aspects of popular culture. I have found myself, as of recently, using Instagram to find workouts to do during my trainings, as well as inspiration for outfits, and delicious vegetarian meals. I have found it much simpler to find these certain topics ever since they had introduced their option to follow hashtags on Instagram. As a result of this emergence, I am able to follow hashtags such as #workouts, #veganmeals, and - one of my favourites - #sleepypup. I find that over the years that Instagram has been growing as a social media platform, it has improved on helping its users stay connected, yet also find videos and images related to their passions and content that they enjoy to view on the Internet. Instead of using Google to find much of this content, Instagram has established ways to find information, and still content, all within one simple - and easy to use - social media application.
