Blog Post #1: Ice Breaker
Hello class,
The social media platform I use the most is YouTube. I like YouTube videos because usually they are not very time consuming as they are only around 10 minutes long. This is beneficial as students because we are always stressed for time. I typically start my day by watching YouTube videos, just like Katherine from week one’s article, started her day on her phone. If I do not take time out of my morning to watch these videos I feel off. Watching these videos gives me a sense of fulfillment and control.
I watch a variety of different videos such as makeup, fashion and comedy related types of clips. An individual I tend to enjoy watching is Ellen DeGeneres’s. I find her show to be very entertaining. At school, I do not have access to television so watching them online is an easy way for me to stay up to date with one of my favourite shows. I find Ellen hilarious, so when school get’s stressful, watching one of her videos helps me de-stress and have a good laugh. My roommates also enjoy watching her videos so it is something we can all enjoy together.
Not only is Ellen hilarious, but she she often discusses information that is relevant in the world. This keeps me informed on current issues.
Hi Jessica,
ReplyDeleteVery relatable post. If I'm eating a quick meal and don't have time for a full-length episode of a show that I like, I will most often sit down and browse Youtube instead. The length of the videos I watch are nice and short, but do you ever find that you end up watching 4, 5, or maybe even 10 videos in a row and realize that an hour has passed? I find it interesting that I can watch a 4-5 minute video no problem, but anything longer than that and I become disinterested. Heck, if the thumbnail for a video says anything longer than 6 minutes, I will most likely pass on it. Do you think there is something inherent in social media (perhaps the immediacy of it all) that has disrupted our ability to pay attention for long periods of time?
